What is Scottsdale, Arizona known for?

Scottsdale is known for three things: world-class resorts, the densest concentration of fine dining in the Southwest, and the highest concentration of golf courses per capita in the United States. The city anchors the northeast corner of the Phoenix metropolitan area and shares borders with Paradise Valley, Phoenix, and Tempe.

It is home to 70+ resorts and luxury hotels, including The Phoenician, Four Seasons Troon North, Andaz, and the Boulders. Old Town Scottsdale serves as the city's walkable arts district, with more than 100 galleries and a Thursday-night ArtWalk that has been running since 1975. North Scottsdale is the master-planned and gated luxury market.

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve protects more than 30,000 acres of desert mountain land directly within the city limits, giving residents trail access from neighborhoods like Troon, Pinnacle Peak, and Desert Mountain. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport sits 18 minutes from Old Town.

Neighborhoods

What are the most desirable neighborhoods in Scottsdale?

Old Town Scottsdale

The original 1888 townsite. Walkable, low-rise, and home to the arts district, the spring training Cubs and Giants games (via Salt River Fields), and the Saturday farmers market at Civic Center Park. Median attached home sale roughly $625,000.

Silverleaf at DC Ranch

Arizona's premier guarded-and-gated luxury community. Mediterranean and contemporary architecture, a Tom Weiskopf private golf course, and the Silverleaf Club. Estate sales regularly clear $10 million, with the highest closings in the $40 million range.

DC Ranch

The larger 4,400-acre DC Ranch surrounds Silverleaf and offers Market Street as its walkable village core. Family-scale homes and patio homes from $1.3 million.

McCormick Ranch

Original Scottsdale master-plan from 1971. Lakes, mature landscaping, and a high concentration of mid-century homes. Median single-family sale $950,000.

Troon, Troon North, and Pinnacle Peak

Hillside luxury homes oriented around the Troon mountain. The Estancia, Whisper Rock, and Mirabel communities cluster here, with golf-fronting estates from $2.5 million.

North Scottsdale (85255 and 85266)

The most active luxury market in the city by volume. Mix of newer custom builds, gated semi-custom communities, and 1+ acre lots. Median sale roughly $1.8 million.

Inventory at the entry luxury tier ($1 to $2 million) remains tight, with median days on market under 30. The over-$5 million segment, which has more inventory, currently averages 95 days on market, meaning negotiation leverage is more available the further up you move.
